Is it an Alarm or an Event?
Often, alarms and events are mixed up…
When an alarm configured in a system is activated, the operator needs to do something to bring the process back to normal state. For example: "If TAH-123 goes off, stops the pump, wait until the temperature is back to normal, then restart the pump."
An event is informative and does not request any action. For example: A message informing the operator that a pump has been stopped for maintenance.
When using alarm management tools, it is important to distinguish between alarms and events since numbers and statistics are based on these.
