Trick for this month : Valve analysis with slow processes?
It is not easy to detect stiction or hysteresis for a slow loop (temperature, level, analysis, …) directly moving a valve. Special tools are available to analyze the valve, for example using signal derivative, but it can be time consuming.
However, if a pressure transmitter, a flow meter or even the motor current is available, one of these extra signals can be used to analyze quickly the valve stiction and hysteresis.
Happy Holidays!
