Trick
Should I use more complex control strategies?
Do I need feedforward?
Are loops interacting?
To answer those questions, interactions has to be modeled.
Feedforward for example can be added if a disturbance can be measured; if so, then we model the impact of this disturbance on the control loop and add a compensator. Usually, people will model this disturbance using bump tests… long and painful.
Interactions occur when a controller output command sent to bring the process variable to setpoint not only affects this process variable but also other signal and loops. Complex bump tests are used to model interactions. These tests are time consuming, hours, even days…
The traditional way to obtain the models, plant personnel has to be trained and they will have to work closely with operation.
Using TaiJi MIMO 3.0 brings new ways to deal with feedforward and interactions. Using normal operation data it is now possible to model disturbance and interactions.
Next month we will explain how TaiJi MIMO 3.0 can be used to obtain the models using normal operation data.
More to come…
Optimization is a very good investment! Usually, within few weeks, money invested is recovered.
